The industrial sector has traditionally been the major energy consumer in Spain. However, the saving and efficiency measures that began to be implemented in the 1970s, the improvement in industrial processes through new technologies, and the great increase in the mobility of people and goods, has led to transport overtaking industry in consumption levels.

In fact, the sector is responsible for 31% of our country’s energy consumption.

The IDAE’s activity in this sector is characterised by the financing of, or participation in, fuel saving and substitution projects, with the aim of improving efficiency in production processes, which contributes to increasing competitiveness and reducing polluting emissions. In this field, the IDAE carries out cogeneration and trigeneration projects which are pioneering in our country.

As a technical advisor, the Institute also carries out project feasibility studies for this sector.
