The Household electrical appliances renewable programme was one of the measures in the 2005-2007 Energy Saving and Efficiency Action Plan and has also been included in the second Action Plan covering the period from 2008-2012.
It should be remembered that every year around 2.8 million household electrical appliances are replaced in Spain (fridges, freezers, washing machines and dishwashers). Buying a new appliance as a replacement does not necessarily mean that the old one is taken out of service. Often it may continue to be used at a holiday home, for example, or for other purposes. The aim of this renewable plan is to encourage the removal of old appliances, manufactured before energy labelling came into effect, from homes and their replacement by newer ones offering better energy efficiency.
The general objectives of the renewal programme (Plan Renove) are the following:
The renewal programme is managed directly by each Autonomous Region, with the timeframes, procedures and conditions established by each in 2008.
As a tool to provide consumers with useful information, the IDAE publishes a regularly updated DATABASE holding details of electrical appliances with an energy class of A or higher, together with their main technical characteristics.
The data are supplied by the electrical appliances importers' association ANFEL (Asociación Nacional de Fabricantes e Importadores de Electrodomésticos de Línea Blanca) and the large distributors' association ANGED (Asociación Nacional de Grandes Empresas de Distribución), using official information submitted by manufacturers who have opted to be included in the database.
Find the most efficient appliances in the database. It contains almost all the electrical appliances available on the Spanish market.
